Generating Sub-Products

Whenever you create an Apparel Product, you must associate Sub-Products with it. Otherwise the Apparel Product will not function properly in your storefront.

Before being able to create Sub-Products for a new Apparel Product, you will have to assign at least one option group to the Apparel Product and at least one attribute. You also need to order the option groups assigned to the Apparel Product and the attributes within each group. You can perform this task for multiple products at once.

If the conditions above are not met, you will be able to generate Sub-Products for the selected Apparel Product and ProductCart will return a message stating so. Therefore, the steps to creating Sub-Products are:

  • Create an Apparel Product by adding a new product or editing an existing product.
  • Assign at least one option group to the product (e.g. “Color” and “Size”). You can do this for multiple products at once (Products > Manage Options > Assign To…)
  • Assign at least one active option attribute to each of the option groups (e.g. “Blue” and “Large”). You can assign attributes to multiple products at once when you assign an option group to them.
  • Order the option groups. ProductCart automatically order them for you, but you can change the order using the Manage Options page.
  • Order the attributes within each group.

Same as above.

  • Locate the product and select Manage Sub-Products.

Now that you are ready to generate Sub-Products for your Apparel Products, let’s see how this is done. You have two ways to add a Sub-Product to an Apparel Product:

a) one by one b) in a batch. If you are adding more than just a couple of Sub-Products (i.e. you have more than just a couple of product variations) you will appreciate the time savings provided by the batch processing feature. You can batch-generate sub-products not just when adding new sub-product to an Apparel Product, but also to add new product variations (e.g. new colors and sizes).
