Tabbed Product Details Display

Some products simply require more space to present all of the necessary details. This script extends the Product Detail page (viewprd.asp) functionality to allow descriptive data to appear in a series of tabs.

To support the content management of these tabs, the product administration tools (and the csv/xls product import/export tools) are altered to feature 6 additional textarea fields, and an optional set of fieldswhich may be used control the titles of the tabs at the product level. (Tab titles may be configured on a site-wide basis, and may be overridden at the category and product levels.)

Here at GreyBeard Design, one of the most frequent requirements for the projects that we perform, is to add new fields to the product table (and the respective admin tools) for one reason or another. The requirement is so common that it is rare that we build a site, or respond to a custom programming request, that we don't have to add such a field to the database and admin tools.

So as we built the 4.5 version of the tabbed product page admin tools, we introduced 9 additional fields to the products table:

3 textarea fields, fully supported by the HTML editor
3 text input fields
3 checkbox on/off flags

These new fields are supported by the product administration tools, as well as the csv/xls product import/export tools.

What you do with these fields (in terms of displaying the text fields or using the checkbox flags for some bit of logic) is between you and your developer, but we just saved you a handful of hours of coding all these extra fields into the product admin tools!
